What is a Fixed Deposit (FD)?
A Fixed Deposit is a financial instrument offered by banks and NBFCs where you deposit a lump sum for a fixed tenure at a pre-agreed interest rate. Your principal is safe and you earn guaranteed returns regardless of market conditions. FDs are one of the safest investment options in India, backed by DICGC insurance up to ₹5 lakh.

How FD Interest is Calculated
FD uses compound interest: A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t)
P = Principal · r = annual interest rate · n = compounding frequency per year · t = tenure in years. Quarterly compounding (n=4) yields slightly more than annual (n=1) at the same stated rate.
